For a completely indulgent lazy way to see the beautiful bays of Kas and Kalkan it is often best to book one of the many tours from the harbour.
All the boat trips whichever you choose offer a relaxing day soaking up the sun and exploring the beautiful bays, beaches and sea caves around Kas and Kalkan.
The boats have excellent facilities for sunbathing, covered canopies, comfortable cushions for lazing around on and plenty of floats and snorkels for the more adventurous swimmer. The day trips usually leave the harbour around 10 am and return at around 5:30pm.
The boats serve traditional Turkish cuisine. It fascinates me how they prepare and cook such delicious restaurant standard food, given the small galley kitchens they have but lunch and afternoon tea is fresh and in plentiful supply, you will leave the boat feeling full and in need of a walk up ‘cardiac hill’. Drinks are usually not included in the price of the trip.
For something a little more special, try a romantic moonlit cruise - this is a heavenly experience. The boat leaves at around 6pm and as you set out to sea leaving the twinkling lights and the dull thud of music resonating from the bars and restaurants behind you, enjoy a crisp cold glass of wine or beer and watch in wonder as the day’s sun slowly goes down. This is a truly magical sight, the sea is rich in colour, dark and alluring and many shooting stars have been seen from the boats at night.
For those of you who like to swim at night this is a great opportunity; the water is pleasantly warm and calm, and as the sun vanishes in front of your eyes creating a memory that never fades, you head out towards a quiet bay for a BBQ dinner of freshly caught fish, rice dishes, roasted vegetables and traditional Turkish Borek.
All the boats offer excellent value for money and booking in advance is recommended as they are extremely popular and you are guaranteed a superb day.
You can also book Fishing trips, Scuba Diving and Tandem Paragliding from the harbour, which will give you the option to explore the wonderful underwater world of caves reefs and wrecks around Kas and Kalkan. Paragliding is an amazing way of seeing this beautiful rugged coastline and although you can book in Kalkan, the hills behind Kas are best suited for the paragliding experience.
